The supply checklist every Big Island rental actually needs

What guests use most, what they complain about most, and how to never run out again.

Running out of something mid-stay is one of the few problems a guest will mention in a review even when everything else was excellent. This is the list we restock across the properties we manage, grouped by how badly it hurts to be missing it.

Never run out of these

  • Toilet paper — at least one visible spare per bathroom.
  • Paper towels — a second roll under the sink.
  • Dish soap and sponge — replace the sponge every turnover, not every month.
  • Trash bags — sized for the actual bins, plus liners for the bathroom.
  • Laundry pods — guests on longer stays will look for these.

The ones that buy you goodwill

  • Local coffee. On Big Island this is not a nicety, it is an expectation.
  • Guest toiletry minis — for the traveller whose shampoo got confiscated.
  • Local honey or a small pantry item as a welcome touch.

The Big Island specifics

The wet side changes the maths. In Hilo, Pahoa and Volcano, anything paper absorbs moisture — store spares in a sealed bin, not an open shelf, or guests find soft, damp toilet paper. In Volcano, add a note about the wood stove if the property has one.

On catchment-fed properties in Puna and South Kona, leave a short note about water use. Guests used to mainland plumbing will otherwise run a tank down.

Stop tracking it manually

The reason hosts run out is that supply level is invisible until it is zero. We deliver these on a schedule matched to your booking calendar, and the app sends restock alerts before a gap happens.
